Aetherboard

Why Aetherboard

You host the game on your own computer, and your players need only a browser.

Your saved games are on your computer

The host’s computer is the server, and each saved game is one file on it. You can back it up, move it to another computer or open it later, and none of that needs our service.

Joining is free

You don’t need an account to join a game. A membership raises the limits on the tables you host and adds cloud storage.

Game systems are files

Each game system is a file the app reads, so no game’s rules are built into the app. The free 5th Edition rules, 2024 and 2014, come with it, along with two starter games. For another game, or your own, make a game system in the in-app editor. See what’s included.

Hosting works behind a home router

Install the app, sign in and press Host Game. Even if your router blocks incoming connections, your game appears in the server browser, because players connect through our service. A private game isn’t listed, so you send its code instead.

What it does not do

Someone has to host
The table is up only while the host’s computer is on. For a game that is always up, use a hosted service.
No macro language
Game systems are data, and a game system you download can’t run code on your computer. Complex automation isn’t available or planned.
Rough edges
Maps, fog, combat, inventory and money all work. The in-app game system editor is new.
No macOS build yet
Hosting needs Windows or Linux. Mac players can join from a browser.
